New trend amongst
breeders
We have noticed a clear trend amongst
traditional Siberian cat breeders to keep the traditional
lines separate from the colourpoint lines. By testing for the
colourpoint gene it is possible to avoid colourpoint carriers in the
breeding, if one wishes to do so.
Importance in
preserving the correct Siberian Cat type
Losing the Siberian type would be very
harmfull for the breed, why should the lovely Russian national cat breed lose
its' authentic look ? It is worrying when show
judges nominate Siberian cats that resemble more
classical Persian cats than the Siberian cat itself. In
this way those judges who for a reason or another nominate extreme
typed Siberians with too short muzzles, too rounded features and
lots of fluffy coat give automatically the wrong signal to the
breeders and to kitten buyers about the correctness
of type. If such BIS nominations and BIS winnings become
widely spread, it will result in the gained popularity of
the classical Persian look in this breed. In other words judges
have in general tremendous responsibility when they judge.
For a show judge it is important
to study and understand the Siberian cat
breed. A knowledgable judge looks beyond the grooming and knows
that a fluffy traditional Persian appearance in a Siberian cat is
not the correct look and will avoid in nominating a Siberian representing the
incorrect type. Judges, who understand the breed and
preserve rather than assist in changing the breeds'
characteristic features to something completely different are worth their weight
in gold. The same goes for Siberian cat breeders
who take responsibility in preserving this breed as
authentic and healthy as possible and stay out of breeding Siberian
cats with classical Persian features. Links to nice Traditional Persian
