Kahlua, the Siberian kitten named like a drink
What is the name of your kitty? Why did you choose that name?
Her name is Kahlua. Why: My husband and I like to entertain. When I saw her photo at one week old she was primarily white and she was a Russian Siberian, thus a little white Russian = Kahlua. Now she really looks like the color of the drink. 🙂
How old is your kitty?
Born on April 1, 2018
What country and city are you from?
We live in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania – USA
How did you decide to have a Siberian cat and why?
I have had a cat the majority of life and mostly adopted a rescue. My husband is semi-allergic to cats and did NOT want or like cats. After 10 years together, married and no children – just us – I could not go any longer without a cat.
So I began to research hypoallergenic cats and came across the Siberian and fell in total love. After reading about their personality, I knew this was the cat for us. I told my husband a week after I sent the deposit for Kahlua.
We’ve had her now for four weeks and he is a completely different person!!! I NEVER thought I would see him this way…not going to bed until he kisses her good night. At times worse than me …LOL
What is your kitty’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other Siberian cat owners?
We continue to feed her Purina Pro Plan Kitten, same as her breeder – only dry food plus assorted treats. Her favorite treat flavor is salmon.
What are your cat’s favorite toys or games?
Kahlua absolutely loves anything with feathers and her round circuit with a glow light ball.
What does your cat love doing most?
Kahlua is extremely playful and energetic so she requires lots of play time.
Is there a funny story you could tell us about your Siberian?
Kahlua is simply so energetic that we laugh at everything she does. The funniest would have to be watching her learn how far she can jump. She is certainly perfecting her agility every day!
What do you love most about your Siberian?
Simply how intelligent she is. As long as something is repeated consistently, she is quick to pick up and learn new habits and skills.
What are the good sides of having a Siberian cat?
Kahlua is the best purring machine and when she is in cuddle mode – I take it and don’t move! She is the best greeter when we come home from work.
And most of all, she is VERY social. We love to entertain and she was quick to adapt to having lots of people around the house and not being frightened.
What are some downsides to having a Siberian cat?
No matter how long of a day you had or tired you are Kahlua needs playtime; she has so much energy and needs someone to play with since we do not have another cat. Kahlua is a hyper kitten and does not like to cuddle much and sit still unless she is napping; therefore, taking photos is a challenge.
Does your kitty shed much and how do you deal with it?
Currently, she is not shedding at all though is only a kitten. We are getting her used to brushing a few times a week to prepare her for the future. She also likes the Dyson on her belly.
Do you travel with your cat? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Cat hotel? 🙂
Pet Sitter. We had to go away three weeks after she arrived and had friends stay at our home so Kahlua did not have to leave her home. We plan to continue this option. We are fortunate people like staying at our home.
Would you recommend other people to have a Siberian cat, why or why not?
Yes…but only if you have the time and energy to devote to them. Siberians are intelligent and athletic cats and do require attention. Like dogs, the individual needs to research the correct personality of a cat that will fit their lifestyle. The Siberian was perfect for us.

Zuko the Siberian kitten from California!
What is your name, and what is the name of your cat? Why did you choose that name?
My name is Sammi, and my cat’s name is Zuko! He is named after Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation, my favorite character from Avatar: the Last Airbender.
How old is your kitty?
My kitty is six months old, born on March 1, 2018.
What country and city are you from?
We live in Los Angeles, California in the U.S. 🙂
How did you decide to have a Siberian cat and why?
Some of my friends and family are allergic to cats so I looked into hypoallergenic breeds. I saw that Siberians were one of them and they were the fluffiest and cutest on the list!
I knew then I wanted to get a Siberian, especially after reading more about their personalities and how they are a very dog-like cat.
I love both cats and dogs, but of course I love cats more and a Siberian fit exactly what I wanted.
What is your kitty’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other Siberian cat owners?
I feed Zuko mainly Royal Canin dry food for now, and plan on incorporating Royal Canin wet food later into his diet when he gets a little older, due to cost purposes.
I give him wet food as a treat sometimes and he definitely prefers wet food over the dry food, but his ultimate favorite foods are raw beef and cooked chicken.
He’s always jealous when we eat dinner and tries to sit in our lap to steal some of our human food (meat only) when he gets the chance!
What are your cat’s favorite toys or games?
I have tons of toys for Zuko, but unfortunately it seems that he is interested in playing with our hands and toes more than anything haha.
Besides that, he does love his Turbo Scratcher Cat Toy, jingle balls, and the end of his feather rod as his favorites.
What does your cat love doing most?
My cat loves to sleep or either run around from one end of the house to the other like crazy!
Majority of his time is definitely spent sleeping, but that is also because he is still a kitten 🙂
Is there a funny story you could tell us about your Siberian?
Zuko is definitely a very entertaining cat! One of the funny things he likes to do is wait around the corner outside of the bathroom door for you, and then jump and yowl in surprise when you come out of the room! Even though he’s expecting us he still acts like we scared him haha.
What do you love most about your Siberian?
I love how soft Zuko feels and his cuddliness. He is definitely a people person and wants attention 95% of the time and I love to shower him with my love. He lets me and my family pick him up and cradle him like a baby, which is just the cutest!!
What are the good sides of having a Siberian cat?
Besides being hypoallergenic, Zuko barely sheds! He is also an extremely loyal companion and loves all humans.
What are some downsides to having a Siberian cat?
The only downside I can think is that Siberians are usually very vocal, and Zuko is one of them. He is usually meowing for attention, and sometimes walks around the house meowing as if he’s talking to himself even when I’m trying to figure out what he wants!
Does your kitty shed much and how do you deal with it?
Zuko barely sheds at all but I make sure to brush him once a day.
Do you travel with your cat? What do you do when you need to go on
vacation? (Pet sitter? Cat hotel? 🙂
I haven’t needed to travel with Zuko yet since I’ve only had him for two months, but I have brought Zuko on a couple car rides so far with him on his harness & leash, and there’s been no problem! If I do need to go on vacation, I have my family take care of him or I will have a friend come take care of him.
Would you recommend other people to have a Siberian cat, why or why not?
Yes, Zuko is everything I’ve ever dreamed of! He is so cute, fluffy, loves to snuggle, and is very smart. I have been able to take him out on walks and teach him a few tricks! He also understands his name and normally comes when I call for him. Siberian cats are the best cat breed 🙂
